Dear
Parents:
I’m Ann-Michele
Timmerman and I have been exceptionally gifted with
a deeper understanding of the world as the child sees
it. I intuitively understand
energy when it comes to children and
have since I was a very young child myself. (Although
at the time, I didn’t know that it was energy that I
was intuitively understanding!)
Back in the late 1990s, people began asking me what
I did differently when raising my own children. Teachers,
family members, friends…even my own mother did.
She always told me that all my life,
long before I was a parent myself, I was naturally gifted
with young children. It just
didn’t dawn on me until recently that I could help others
with my gift.
And actually, up until a few years ago, I couldn’t figure
out why people were asking me what I knew about children.
To be honest with you, I had never thought about it.
It baffled me because I suppose that I just assumed
that every parent surely must do the same or similar
things under their own roof and never had any problems
with their kids. I really didn’t realize that this wasn’t
always the case.
Then when a person I greatly respect told my mom (who
then told me) that I should write a book on parenting,
I started taking that seriously. I began to realize
that I wanted to help people
by getting my unique gift with children out into the
world. (And as a naturally
quiet, sensitive person, whodda thunk I would have ended
up doing it in such a public way…on the Internet!) So
I began to write.
Somewhere in the midst of writing, I hit a wall. I knew
this concept by feel, but I just couldn’t find the words.
I just couldn’t figure out how to describe something
that came instinctively to me! I mean, how do you describe
in words something that you just feel, something that
you’re just naturally good at?
After a long struggle, I finally had
my “aha moment.” I was utilizing
energy that I was harnessing in the right way.

What
do I mean by energy? |
 |
|
| I know
that at first, energy seems like some sort of vague,
abstract, way-out-there kind of concept. (And if you’re
anything like me, you’re not a way-out-there sort of
person!) I think that this is because it’s not something
that most of us grew up with hearing about, and energy
is not always readily visible. However,
the results of using it correctly ARE visible, and this
is what makes it tangible. |
Energy
is all around us. Even our bodies are entirely
subatomic particles of energy that are constantly
buzzing away. By my particular definition, energy
in this instance means the messages that you are
transmitting to your child at any given time.
It is what your child feels
from you and subsequently reacts to -
in a good way or a bad way.
It just depends on the type of energy that you’re
sending. Energy is an emotional language, an emotional
atmosphere and tone. It can also be communicated
to your child in many different ways. |

Have
you ever met someone that you didn’t feel comfortable
around or you didn’t like but you didn’t know why? Or
what about someone that you instantly warmed up to and
you knew that you wanted to get to know them better?
It was probably their energy telling you something about
them.

How
else does energy apply to parenting? |

| I
believe that energy is key
to not just raising children that behave in the way
that you want them to, but they behave that way because
they want to. By harnessing energy properly,
we are empowering them, and as
parents, that’s what we want to do!

Humans are just good at making things hard.
I believe that if
people are genuinely going to solve a challenge,
they must get to the crux of, to the root
of that challenge, no
matter what it is. So if there is a problem
with your child’s behaviour, getting to
the very core of that problem is the only
way to properly change it. No bandaid cover-ups
here!

I
get results. When I explain
these concepts to parents, at first they’re a little
uncertain. Understandable, right? Many things we learn
that are entirely new to us can be daunting.
However, when I see
the light start to shine in a parent’s
eyes, the excitement and animation in their words and
body language and I know that
it’s all coming together for them, it brings tears to
my eyes. They figure it out, they utilize what I’ve
told them and voila! They start to see what they want…results!
That actually happened to me just
recently and he wasn’t even a client. A friend of mine
has been asking me about what I do, what my company
is all about. Apparently he had been listening more
closely to what I had been saying over the last few
months than I had thought.
While his children are all grown
and he has grandchildren (this
isn’t just all for parents, by the way…teachers, daycare
providers, grandparents…anyone that has anything to
do with children can use it), he
tried out the concept on them. And it worked!
As we were driving in his truck, he was quite excited
about this, exclaiming, “You were right, Ann-Michele,
you were right!” His eyes were lively and dancing and
his words were animated…
And as I realized I had helped someone whom I didn’t
know I even did, yes, tears sprang to my eyes. (I pretended
I was looking at a baseball game through the passenger
window…). Heck, I believe that we all have information
in our heads and gifts in our hearts that we can help
others out with.

I
don’t just talk the talk, I walk my talk. My
own children are a perfect example of what can happen.
Get this…they are 18, 17 and 13 and
I have never had a lick of trouble with any of them.
I have never once seen a “temper tantrum”
when they were toddlers. I have never once had to tell
them to do their homework. I have never once had challenges
with them as teenagers. No,
I am NOT kidding.
They
are polite, well-mannered, self-motivated, wholesome
children, despite the day and age and the crazy drug
culture out there.
Is
this because of some rare genetic fluke? Is it because
they’re unusual and exceptional? (Well, gee, I’d like
to think so as their mother!) All joking aside,
it’s because I’ve used parenting through energy™ their
entire lives.
Has
my personal life since I became a parent always been
easy street, the white picket fence? Nope. I’ve gone
through more than one divorce, times where I had less
than zero dollars in the bank, I finished a University
degree while being a full-time mom with little to no
help - you name it, I’ve been through it.
But I have never strayed from
utilizing this concept that I’m about to teach you,
no matter how far the chips were down. I
shake my head when I think of the experts I know of
